Meditation Retreat – December – Reflect upon this question so intensely that you are like a starving man!

Welcome to the December meditation retreat at the Honora zen monastery in Switzerland.

Contemplation - December Meditation Retreat

Ask yourself repeatedly, "What does this mind look like?" In your daily rounds, continue to ask yourself, "What does this mind look like?" Reflect upon this question so intensely that you are like a starving man thinking of nothing but good food. Do not loose of your questioning at any time. Buddha has said,

Whatever has a form, which is everything, is all delusory. Everything that the ordinary human beings does is subject to life and death. There is only one way for us to be a true man and this is realization of our own mind.

A student simply must endure and tolerate the angry mind. Many masters have also said that because of anger, man becomes a tiger, a bee, a snake, or some similar stinging or biting creature. From being foolish minded a man becomes either a bird or a butterfly. From low-minded, depending upon degree, a man becomes as ant, a mosquito or the like. From craving things, a man becomes a hungry ghost. The type of desire or anger molds the nature of hell into which men will accordingly fall. Each and every state of mind determines the kind of creature man is to become.

Throughout beginningless aeons we have been afflicted by such hindrances. Yet one way to overcome them is to cultivate the following three disabilities; blindness (although you have eyes, not knowing how to see), deafness (although you have ears, not knowing how to hear) and dumbness (although you have a tongue, not knowing how to speak).
