What is zen meditation? – Transcending opposites is one of its most important tasks!
What is zen meditation? The winter zen meditation retreat ends today. The zen master begins the ritual. His voice is crisp and clear and so is his echo. The temple bell is struck. Its resonance is fathomless and its reverberations are fathomless as well.
What is Zen Meditation
One is many, many are one. Form is emptiness, and emptiness is form. These words directly express the Middle in Life. The Middle Path is dialectical synthesis as well as harmonization on values. It's a higher and greater value beyond self and other. Here is the truth of Life. When facing opposites, the Middle Path doesn't lead to conflict and separation; a greater value is created by the two opposites. The Middle Path is not "average" or "neutral." Its goal is to acclaim the truth, "many are one" out of the infinite teachings of the Holy and Wise Ones. One is many.
Transcending opposites is one of its most important tasks. The purification of individuals and the purification of the world can only be realized this way. But it's totally up to every individual. The welfare of society cannot be attained without the purification of the minds of individuals within it.
It is inevitable that those who meet must part. Parting though, promises meeting again in the future. Zen monks are likely to meet again at another meditation hall as long as they remain zen monks.
Parting Zen Monks
"Where do you go?"
"I'm going to live in a hermitage. I want to be free of boredom and laziness. I'm going somewhere that looks like a place to be lazy but I really want to escape laziness by living there. I'm going to live a very boring, regimented life so I can liberate myself from boredom."
"I'm going south to another meditation hall. Whenever I get lazy, I need formal discipline, and whenever I get bored, I need the tea room. Whenever I dropped in the tea room, I couldn't help but return to the practice quickly."
