Mysticism & Gospel of Thomas – No. 89 – Outer World and Inner World

Verse - Outer World and Inner World

Jesus said, "Why do you wash the outside of the bowl? Do you not understand that he who made the inside is the same one who made the outside?"

Comment

Anyone who says that man is bad, weak and sinful only sees the external man, not the internal one. Anyone who looks deeper, who sees him from the inside - with the eyes of the one who created him - knows that man is good as long as he is himself, as long as he does not live from the external ego, but from his innermost self, the divine core of his being. The unawakened strive to keep the outside of the body cup, the vessel of their soul, the temple of the spirit of God that is in them, pure and beautiful, healthy and efficient with external means.

They rarely see the greater possibilities of transformation and renewal, sanctification and healing of the body from within, through the spirit. The words of Christ want to protect us from this misperception when they point us to the inside, the inner man, and to the one who created and maintains him. Of course, the play on words of outside and inside contains even deeper truths that gradually reveal themselves to those who meditate on them.

Anyone who moves one of the Secret Words of the Lord in their heart from time to time will experience how it reveals to them ever deeper, previously unexplained truths and certainties - and tasks that lie in their path and need to be solved by them.
