Mysticism & Gospel of Thomas – No. 80 – Bearer of Eternal Life

Verse - Bearer of Eternal Life

Jesus said, “Whoever has come to know the world has found the body, but whoever has found the body the world is not worthy of.”

Comment

Anyone who turns inward, willing to awaken and longing for light, and sees and understands the world from within - in the light of truth - has found the body: he has become aware of the transience of the world, which is similar to that of the body, and has thus become immune to its temptations and has grown beyond them. It is not worthy of him. The external life and the transient pleasures of the world can no longer satisfy him, for he knows about his cosmic citizenship in the kingdom of God.

He has achieved self-knowledge and knows that he is not of the earth, but of God. He who has found Christ, the Son of God, the divine spark of light, within himself is born of God, as John further explains: "This is the testimony that God has given us eternal life; and this life is that of his Son. He who has the Son of God has life. We know that we are of God, and that the world lies in the evil one and is subject to corruption, as the body is, while the awakened are bearers of eternal life.
