Mysticism & Gospel of Thomas – No. 69 – Solution to suffering from within

Verse - Solution to suffering from within

Jesus said: Praise be to those who were persecuted in their hearts: they are those who have come to know the Father in truth. And praise be to those who become hungry for this, the belly of the Chosen One (the One Who Has Been Made Whole), as soon as he wants it, will be filled."

Comment

It is also addressed to all those who cannot cope with the torments and sufferings of existence because, looking outward, they expect relief and ease, help and liberation from there, although true freedom only comes from within and is only granted to those who have truly recognized the Father. The deeper meaning of the two beatitudes is not clear to those who have not yet understood the nature and meaning of suffering and have not yet recognized life as a cosmic school and place of constant self-testing and self-proving.

Those who want to see me and grasp my kingdom must be pressed into suffering in order to receive me.

Christ is looking here at those who do not allow adversity and suffering to embitter and harden them, but rather to purify them and lead them towards the light. The confusion will be of salvation to them and will help them to find help and support from their external helplessness, to break through the sadness and darkness to the inner light and, in the midst of their suffering, to realize their security in the eternal.
