Mysticism & Gospel of Thomas – No. 44 – Renewal through the Spirit
Verse - Renewal through the Spirit
Jesus said, "Whoever blasphemes against the Father will be forgiven, and whoever blasphemes against the Son will be forgiven, but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, either on earth or in heaven."
Comment
To clarify this word, which at first sounds paradoxical, we refer to its version in other gospels: All sin and blasphemy will be forgiven, but not the blasphemy against the Spirit. Anyone who speaks against the Son of Man will be forgiven; but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, neither in this world nor in the next. This is because the Holy Spirit, the inner light, forms the access to the divine spark, to the Christ in us, and thus to the Father.
As long as we fail to recognize and deny him, we exclude ourselves from the Kingdom of God and do not come any closer to him in this world or the next. Christ spoke again and again of this Holy Spirit, who enlightens us and clears the way for what goes beyond enlightenment - becoming one. Future of humanity In his speech about the future of humanity, he urges his followers not to be afraid or worried about what they will say, but to let themselves be guided and enlightened from within:
Speak what is given to you at that hour. For it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.
The enlightenment through the Spirit is given to those who ask God for it, and they will experience it - like the disciples of Jesus on the day of Pentecost - as an outpouring of the Holy Spirit, they will know the power of the Holy Spirit within themselves and receive his gifts, so that they will see like the apostles. Only in this being filled and guided by the Spirit does the love of God become apparent to us, as Paul felt: The love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you! Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God within you, because by doing so you exclude yourselves from the fullness of the Kingdom of God, but learn to live by the Spirit, so that you may be saved through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. Turn to the truth and sin no more, so that you may inherit the glory of righteousness, which is in heaven as the power of the Spirit and of immortality. Righteousness, power and immortality are given to us according to the measure of our serving love.
In it we reveal how far the living human being has awakened in us, how far the Spirit of Christ is alive in us and works through us. Every act of serving love on the path to self-perfection triggers higher initiations.
