Mysticism & Gospel of Thomas – No. 100 – Clear Decision
Verse - Clear Decision
They showed Jesus a gold coin and said to him, "Caesar's servants are demanding taxes from us. He said to them, 'Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, give to God what is God's, and give to me what is mine.'"
Comment
This sentence makes it clear that this is not about paying taxes, but about something more essential. It says: you know the difference between the world and God, and above all you know that if you give me, who lives in you as your light self, what is mine, namely your heart and being, every question will resolve itself.
If you look inwards, towards me, instead of outwards, at the world, you will know with innermost alertness and certainty what to do and what not to do. You will then willingly give and leave what belongs to the world - the emperor - without questions or reservations, and you will give to God what is his. Yourselves with everything that essentially belongs to you, beyond all time and transience.
