Mass for the Deceased – You make them wait for their salvation in the place of purification in their deserved punishment

Mass for the Deceased in Honor of the Bitter Passion of Jesus Christ from my grandfather's Prayer Book (Men in Prayer).

Prayer

Jesus Christ! You took on your bitter suffering and death so that we poor, sinful people could be reconciled with your Father in heaven. The blood you shed was used to cleanse our souls. At this holy mass we would like to remember especially those who have already passed through the dark gate of death, but who have not yet been allowed to enter the joy of heaven.

You make them await their salvation in the place of purification in their deserved punishment. You have placed in our hands the powerful means of prayer with which we can help these poor souls and ease and shorten their suffering. Here at Holy Mass, where your Redeemer blood comes on the altar and is offered again for all of us, we want to offer our prayer to these poor souls. That it may also flow to their liberation and salvation and take away their punishments from them, we ask with all the power of prayer that we are capable of.

And with the priest we pray: May our almighty God have mercy, forgive us our sins and lead us to eternal life. May the almighty and merciful Lord grant us remission, absolution and forgiveness of our sins. Amen.

Kyrie and Church Prayer

Lord have mercy on us!

Christ, have mercy on us!

Lord have mercy on us!

Carried for us and for all poor sinners by Your Passion and Your Holy Cross, have mercy, Jesus, and redeem the poor souls in purgatory!

Let us pray:

God, it is yours to practice mercy and forbearance at all times; therefore we beg you in humility for the souls of your servants whom you have separated from the world. Do not leave them in the hands of the enemy and forget them forever, but let the holy angels rush to meet them and escort them to the home of paradise.

They hoped in you and believed in you; therefore let them not suffer the torments of hell, but enjoy everlasting joys. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever. Amen.

Epistle

Reading from the 1st Epistle of the Apostle Paul to the Thessalonians:

Brethren, we do not want you to be ignorant of those who have fallen asleep, lest you mourn like others (the Gentiles) who have no hope. We believe that Christ died and rose again; likewise God will bring those who have fallen asleep in Jesus together with him. Because we tell you this on behalf of the Lord; We who are alive, who are left behind until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.

When the Lord descends from heaven at the call, at the voice of the archangel, and at the sound of God's trumpet, those dead in Christ will rise first. Then we, the living, who are left behind, will be caught up together with those in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will always be with the Lord. So comfort one another with these words! Thank God.

Dies Irae

Day of wrath, day of tears, will turn the world into ashes.

As Sibyl and David teach.

What horror will be and trembling,

When the judge comes with questions

Strictly examine all complaints!

The trumpet will sound loud penetrate through the graves of the earth,

Force all to the throne.

See death and life with a shudder the creature rise, to give an account to the Lord.

And a book is opened

Loyalty is inscribed in it

Every guilt from earth days.

When the judge sits to judge,

The hidden will be revealed;

Nothing can escape punishment.

Alas, what am I going to say, poor

Which lawyer to ask me

When the righteous despair themselves!

King of terrible forces, your grace is free to switch,

Source of mercy, let mercy prevail!

Jesus, would you consider mildly that you came because of me

Do not hurl curse at me!

You went looking for me tired hung on the cross for my salvation,

May this effort reach its goal.

Judge you just revenge, bear with me,

Before I wake up for judgment.

I stand sighing, guilty

My cheeks are red with shame,

Let my requests find mercy.

Once upon a time Mary forgave

Then you forgave the thief

You also gave me hope.

My plea is of little value to you,

But out of grace let it happen

That I may escape hell.

Among the sheep give me pasture,

Separate me from the crowd of goats, put me on the right side

Will be hell without mercy as a reward for the damned,

Call me to the holy apartment.

Guilty to you I scream

Deeply contrite in heart loyalty,

Blessed end bestow upon me! day of tears, day of labor,

Since from the grave will arise

To judge a man full of sins.

O God, give him mercy!

Gentle Jesus, ruler,

Give the dead eternal rest! Amen.

Gospel

At that time Martha spoke to Jesus: "Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died. But even now I know that God will give you everything you ask of him." Jesus said to her, "Your brother will be raised." Martha answered him: "I know that he will rise again at the resurrection on the last day." Jesus said to her: "I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me will never die. Do you believe that?" She said to him, "Yes, Lord, I believe you are Christ, the Son of the living God, who came into this world." Praise be to you, Christ.

Sacrifice

Lord Jesus Christ, King of Glory, save the souls of all believers who have died from the torments of hell and from the depths of the underworld. Keep them from the lion's mouth, lest hell swallow them up, lest they fall down into darkness. Rather, lead them to Saint Michael, the standard-bearer, into the holy light that you once promised to Abraham and his descendants.

Offerings and prayer we urge in praise of you, O Lord; accept them for those souls we commemorate today. Lord, let them pass from death to the life that you once promised to Abraham and his descendants. Through our sins, mistakes and negligence we have caused your suffering, Lord and Saviour. For this, accept our offering, which the priest now brings to you in our name; the bread and the wine, the tokens of our devotion.

Through redemption you made us new people. Let us share in your divine life, you who took our human lives upon yourself to save our souls. May the Lord accept sacrifices from the hands of the priest, to his praise and glory, for the blessing of us and all his holy Church. Amen. Have mercy, O Lord, on the souls of your servants, for whom we consecrate the sacrifice of praise to you; we humbly beseech your majesty that through this atonement they may find eternal rest.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen.

Preface - Deceased

It is truly dignified and right, just and salutary to give thanks to you always and everywhere, holy Lord, almighty Father, eternal God, through Christ our Lord. In him shines the hope of a blessed resurrection. The unchangeable fate of death certainly oppresses us. Only the promise of the future resurrection lifts us up. Your believers, Lord, cannot be deprived of life; it's just being redesigned. When the hostel of their earthly life crumbles, their eternal home in heaven is ready for them.

Therefore we sing the hymn of your glory with the angels and archangels, with the thrones and dominions, and with the whole host of heaven, and we cry without ceasing:

holy, holy, holy,

Lord God of rulers!

Heaven and earth are filled with your glory!

Hosanna on high! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!

Hosanna on high!

Before the Transformation

Father of Mercy, we include in this holy sacrifice all the concerns and concerns of the Holy Father, our Bishop, our pastors, our civil authorities and superiors. Let your graces flow into the hearts of all people, especially those who are most in need of our intercession. Because of our sins, you, Savior, wanted to endure the terrible agony of crucifixion. Your hands, which bestowed so many blessings, your feet, which ran sore around us, your heart, which beat out of love for us, you had cruelly pierced.

Crucified Savior, I adore you in your immeasurable love! Let me feel what you have done and suffered for me! I may now again be a witness of your holy sacrifice. I may open my soul to the rich stream of love that flows from the altar. Cleanse me and sanctify me so that I may be filled with you and boast in nothing but your cross through which all good things flow to me.

Transformation

Jesus, Son of the living God, we worship you! We remember your holy passion, in which you gave your body for us, that our body might be raised again for eternity. Amen. Jesus, Son of the living God, we worship you! We remember your holy passion in which you shed your precious blood so that we might be washed clean for eternal life. Amen.

After the Transformation

Kind Savior, with all my heart I thank you for your holy passion and death! Don't let your pain and your blood be lost on me. Don't leave me when the night of suffering comes over me, the darkness d! when sadness sets in and I am abandoned by people. Grant eternal peace, light and rest to the souls who are atoning for their sins in purgatory!

You prayed for your executioners from the cross: Now let your sacrifice also benefit those from the altar who are waiting for their salvation. You see their longing and you know their desires. Overcome Your Mercy and Heed Our Request! Even in your deepest pain you thought of sinners and opened heaven to the penitent criminal. See also the redeeming word to them: "Today you will be with me in paradise!"

Before Communion

Admonished and instructed by God himself, we pray the prayer of the Lord: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come to us, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors, and lead us in temptation. Deliver us from evil. Amen. Deliver us, Lord, we ask you, from every evil, past, present or future.

And through the intercession of the blessed, glorious, and always pure Virgin Mary, thy holy apostles Peter, Paul, Andrew, and all the saints, mercifully grant peace in our days. Come to our aid with your mercy, so that we may always be free from sin and safe from all trouble. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen. O Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, give them rest! O Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, give them rest! O Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, give them eternal rest!

You comforter of all people! Lord of all poor souls who have no comfort in their pain! Also, give grace and light to their hearts, as you give to all hearts that come to you pure and humble in Holy Communion! Make your holy body the healing of their souls, as it was given to us for food. With your saints, may they be inseparably united to you through your body and blood, which was given to us human beings for eternal resurrection. Amen.

O Lord, I am not worthy that you should come under my roof; but speak only one word, and my soul will be healed. (3 times) How could I repay the Lord for everything he has done for me! I call out to him in joyful rejoicing, and then I am safe from all my enemies.

Final Prayer for the Deceased

We ask you, Almighty God, that the souls of your servants who have departed from this world, cleansed and freed from sins through this sacrifice, may attain pardon and eternal rest. Dear Mother of God, great pain penetrated your soul like a sword when you saw your son dying on the cross. With him you bore the great redeeming suffering as a mother suffers with her child. Take us also into your maternal care!

Be a good mother to all suffering and cross-bearing people! Also intercede with your Son for the poor souls in purgatory, whom we have specially included in this Holy Mass, and for those of whom no one thinks. Holy Archangel Michael, Standard Bearer of God! You lead the souls of the redeemed into the eternal light of heaven after your strong arm has vanquished the proud spirits.

We commend ourselves and all those who suffer under the power of evil to your great power. Then we will be united with you and with all blessed spirits in eternal happiness. Amen.

The Poor Souls Psalm

From the depths I call to you, O Lord,

Lord, hear my call.

Bend your ear in mercy my loud pleading.

If you betray the sins, O Lord, who could stand before you?

But your law gives me confidence.

So build, my soul, on his word,

And hope in the Lord.

Early from the morning watch until night

Wait, Israel, on the Lord.

For with the Lord is mercy,

Be his salvation in abundance.

He himself will redeem Israel

Of all his sins.

Lord give them eternal rest

And perpetual light shine on them.
